SIBU: Dominic Hu Khie Yeen, after completing SPM at SMK Tung Hua, decided to pursue a study ACCA qualification at MPI because the qualification is highly regarded by his family members who are doing businesses. MPI became his choice of institution for study because of its good reputation in accounting programs & the campus is very close to his house, so it is both cost-saving and convenient to traveling for study. Dominic has chosen accountancy as his career or profession because he is interested in the field of financial management, and his ambition is to be a businessman – running his own firm in the future. He explained “Accounting allows me to earn the capital I required to start my own business and carry out my own practice subsequently. Besides, I believe that a proper finance and management skill underpins a successful business.”
Dominic is currently an accounting lecturer at Methodist Pilley Institute. As a professional accountant and an accounting academician, ACCA qualification has granted him a highly regarded status. For example, he was directly promoted from audit assistant to audit executive one he obtained his ACCA affiliate status (passed all the papers) as the employer was well appreciated of the competency of ACCA affiliate. He was able to pick up most of the task assigned by the employer with the knowledge equipped from ACCA qualification. Few years later, he successfully secured an account executive position in a Japanese multinational corporation in Kuala Lumpur with ACCA qualification under his belt. Moreover, ACCA constantly providing updates of the industry to members which allows him to stay relevant and able to play his role as an accountant in a listed company competently before become a lecturer in MPI to share his valuable experience and insight with his students, the future accountants. Nowadays, as a ACCA Fellow member, his professional opinions are highly respected and considered by fellow accounting lecturers from other universities. He encouraged the younger generations to constantly upgrade and add value to themselves, so they are ever ready when new opportunities knock their door.
