Armed with the dream and self-belief that “True happiness comes from bringing a smile to somebody you love”, Joyce started JOCO LICO, a bridal studio in 2014. Her father, a typical Asian parent, always wanted a stable job for his little girl. Hence the decision to enroll in a Diploma in Accountancy at MPI and graduating with a UCSI degree seemed secure.

After graduation and working in a bank for over 3 years, Joyce decided to do something that would bring herself personal and career fulfillment and happiness to others above all else.

After five years of being in the business, Joyce has definitely come a long way in a competitive industry that had undergone many changes. She indicates that her college studies have equipped her with business related knowledge as well as given her the confidence to pursue her dream and passion. “Every day brings unique challenges. However, life as a business owner is definitely very rewarding”, she added enthusiastically.

Her studio offers services which includes wedding/ party planner, wedding photography & cinematography, theme decoration, makeup etc.

On 23rd January 2015, the first Best Car Care services was opened in Sibu by a few college graduates from MPI. With the knowledge gained from their Business Management Programme, their passion for cars, and emerging market demand, their business has grown to four branches in 4 years’ time.

Their intention is to introduce advanced car detailing technology to Malaysians so that their customers can enjoy professional services locally. With diligent planning, eager pursuance and untiring commitment to excellence, they have won the trust of many customers in their mission towards creating the largest car detailing company in Malaysia. Most importantly, they are happy doing what they love!

Yew Eng Soon (Diploma in Business Management)

“Zen Don Bin” is a fledging venture started by Yiew Eng Soon, a former Business Management student of MPI. The inspiration to venture into the business realm and his idea to revitalize the traditional form of the “Zen Don Bin” was first hatched during his college days.

Immediately upon graduation, Eng Soon dedicated himself in recreating the century-old Foochow pastry to take new forms and meaning. His big breakthrough came in 2018, when he won the Best Creative Entrepreneur Award organized by Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Young Entrepreneur category) with his “Zen Don Bin” brand.

The future looks bright for Eng Soon. His next big challenge is to grow the brand into an international franchise and to create more memories for future generations.

Valerie Lam (Diploma in Early Childhood Education)

In 2014, Ms. Valerie Lam started a franchised kindergarten named MRC Kids in Sibu. However, Valerie felt that she still lacked the proper skills needed to enable her to teach the children in her kindergarten, even though she has 3 children of her own. She decided to take up a Diploma in Early Childhood Education in MPI in Jan 2015, with the intention to better-equip herself.

She indicated that the knowledge and skills gained from her studies helped enhance her teaching in a more holistic approach. After graduating, she felt more confident to facilitate and guide the children in her kindergarten go through the process of learning.

With the benefits gained from the Early Childhood Programme at MPI, she also encouraged her kindergarten teachers to enroll in the programme, to better equip themselves as an early childhood educator. “As an educator, we need to set good examples as role models for the children as well as their parents, to be honest, helpful and hardworking”, she added.

Charles Tiong (Diploma in Computer Science)

Charles graduated in 2003 with a Diploma in Computer Science in MPI. Being a student who was weak in his studies, he related how his life was impacted by a few of his lecturers who spent extra time to give him free tuition and helped him with his assignments.

After graduation from MPI, He went on to study Marine Shipping Design in UTM in Y2006. He worked as a marine designer in a shipping company for five years, but He finally chose to pursue his dream as a teacher. He started a tuition school, namely Smart High Tuition Centre, which provided tuition to students from Form 1 to Form 3 at Secondary school level.

His passion was also to help students who are weak in their studies by providing free tuition on languages and mind-mapping to students at various local schools. “The love and dedication shown by my teachers in MPI played a big part in my life, that’s why I want to contribute back to society by helping students who are weak in their studies, but cannot afford to go for private tuition. I feel motivated when I see my students’ improvement” he added with enthusiasm.
