Methodist Pilley Institute, established in 1991, is the oldest private higher learning institution in Sibu, Sarawak. The Institute provides higher education in the areas of accounting, taxation, finance, business management, computing, early childhood education, social work and English, and is well known as an excellence institute for business programs in the regional.

The Institute invites qualified individuals to fill the following position.



Position Year 2024

1. Lecturer in Computer Science (fixed-term contract)

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Familiarity with MQA and MOHE requirements and ensure compliance of MQA accreditation requirements.

  • Plan, prepare and deliver up-to-date and comprehensive lectures and tutorials using effective teaching and learning strategies and instructional technology.
  • Plan and organize field excursions at undergraduate and graduate level to maximize student learning.
  • Undertake research projects and actively contribute to the institution’s research profile and supervise students’ research activities.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments to students.
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials.
  • Develop and use evaluation and assessment methods, which fairly measures student progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students, including submission of students’ final grade and supporting documents according to established deadlines.
  • Provide academic and career counselling for students. (Mentor-mentee system)
  • Provide IT support in the IT Department.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess Master (or equivalent) in Computer Science or in related disciplines.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of teaching experience in tertiary education.
  • Familiarity with Python, Linux, HTML, Java, PHP, CSS, and JavaScript etc.
  • Expertise in UML (Unified Modeling Language), System Development Methodology, DFD (Data Flow Diagram) and ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram).
  • Advanced technical skills in networking, including comprehensive knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, network security and cloud computing. Practical experience in configuring and managing network devices and protocols.
  • Ability to deliver and teach computer science courses such as Networking, Operating Systems, Parallel and Distributed Computing, System Analysis and Design.

 

2. Administrative Officer (Corporate Training) (fixed-term contract)

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • To plan, manage, and support all events and activities related to the Corporate Training Department.
  • To carry out administration related to these events and activities.
  • To work proactively to ensure successful delivery of events or corporate trainings.
  • To liaise with governmental agencies, industries partners, corporate clients, and others.

Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in Business Management / Marketing / Mass Communication or a closely related area.
  • Result oriented with pro-active attitude, pleasant personality with good communication skills and written skills in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Willing to learn, take on new roles when needed to.
  • Able to make marketing calls and follow up.
  • Willing to work beyond normal working hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Able to travel as and when required.
  • Must have own transport.
