MPI successfully held its Open Day and Generative AI in Education Seminar

SIBU: Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) successfully held its second MPI Open Day for this year last Saturday (June 14) at the campus.

Accompanying the Open Day was the Generative AI in Education Seminar conducted by Professor Shang Yi from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, United States, from 9am until 11am.

Professor Shang Yi shared about the real-world use of AI at the University of Missouri and showcased how educators and researchers use generative AI tools like ChatGPT as part of the learning process.

Some 200 members of the public and students attended the seminar. Each participant received a certificate after the seminar.

Sibu Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Ling was invited to officiate the opening of the seminar. Also present were Deputy Officer of Sibu District Education Office Wong Siew Meng, MPI Honorary Chairman Hii Ching Chiong and its Board of Directors’ member Kwang Pek Ing, MPI Chief Executive Officer and Principal Dr Lu Huong Ying.

Meanwhile, during the Open Day, MPI set up course counselling booths at the Gail Pilley Library, giving the opportunity for the members of the public to get to know more about courses offered in MPI.

Lecturers from respective academic departments were present to assist in the course counselling sessions.

Among other programmes included Campus Info, Talk Sessions by every department, meeting the lecturers, and many others.

There was also information on scholarships, loans, and aptitude tests for the students to find courses that suit them.

Among the programmes available in MPI include Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), ACCA Foundation in Accountancy (ACCA FIA), Accounting, Taxation, Marketing, MUET 1, Social Work, Business Management, Computer Science, Finance and Investment, Early Childhood Education, and Intensive English.

As part of MPI’s commitment to deliver industry and community-relevant programmes, a new programme, namely Diploma in Nursing, is being developed and will be offered soon.
