MPI Alumni Return Home for CNY Reunion Ahead of 35th Anniversary

SIBU: Former students of Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) came back to their alma mater for a Chinese New Year Reunion lunch on Feb 21, 2026.

The programme was also part of MPI’s 35th Anniversary Celebration, which falls on April 5, 2026.

Among those present were Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and principal of MPI Dr Lu Huong Ying, President of the MPI Alumni Association Mike Wong, and former principal of MPI Judy Wong.

In her address, Dr Lu expressed her gratitude towards the alumni for their continuous support. She also said MPI has always been very proud of their success in their respective fields.

“I welcome all of you home. MPI cannot be the MPI it is today without all of you. I believe each and every one of you carries a part of MPI with you in your respective careers.

“We are truly blessed because your success actually reflects the efforts of the MPI brand that we are trying to build,” she pointed out. She also invited them to join the 35th Anniversary Dinner on April 5, 2026, at Kingwood Hotel.

Meanwhile, Mike said that MPI is not just a college, but a place that shaped the students to become who they are today.

He said the Alumni Association will continue to play its part in reconnecting with the former students and supporting the institute whenever it can.

Judy, in her sharing, said that although she had retired as the principal many years ago, her heart is still with MPI. She also invited everyone, especially the former students, to attend the 35th Anniversary dinner and make it a grand celebration.

“We want to see MPI continue to stay important and relevant. Soon, we will become a university college or, in the long run, a full-fledged university.

“Though we have many challenges, I believe MPI still has a role to play and we do need the continuous support from the alumni, churches, and the community,” she said.

She said she is very proud to see many of its graduates who are very successful outside of Sarawak and even Malaysia.

The lunch was an opportunity for the former students to mingle and share their past experiences.
