| SIBU: Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) Alumni Ambassador for Sarikei and Bintangor were officially launched on Dec 7, 2025 (Sunday) at Dawn House, Sarikei.
Two former students were appointed as the ambassadors, namely Shirley Ling Wee Chee (Sarikei) from the Diploma in Accounting and Liew Yun Yun (Bintangor) from the Bachelor in Early Childhood Education. As the ambassadors, they have been given the opportunity to promote MPI and become a bridge between MPI and the community. Their support would not be limited to activities and initiatives by MPI but would also inspire prospective students to receive quality education at MPI. Shirley took up the Diploma in Accounting at MPI in 2015 following encouragement from her parents who believed the future is brighter with accounting knowledge. After she graduated from accounting, she became an entrepreneur who operates her own café called Dawn House in Sarikei, a café that serves western food and snacks. According to her, she was able to apply whatever she learned at MPI – from having the resilience to become an entrepreneur to business operation to accounting to marketing. “Being an ambassador, it gives me the opportunity to scout talents and to promote all the good things and programmes available at MPI,” she said. Yun Yun is now a headmistress of Tadika Ria in Bintangor. She continued her Bachelor in Early Childhood Education at MPI after she completed her Form 6 education in 2019. “I learned how to teach children and how to design the programme that is effective for children. So now as a headmistress, even before becoming a principal, whenever there is a problem occurring, I would recall what I learned in class on how to handle the situation effectively,” she pointed out. In fact, she said the training to become an early childhood educator already started when she enrolled in the degree programme. She said the combination of theory and practical helped her to be ready and competent to be an early childhood educator. Meanwhile, the Alumni Ambassador launching kicked off with an ice-breaker session in which all former students and academic staff introduced one another. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and principal of MPI Dr Lu Huong Ying said MPI is always proud of the achievements of their former students no matter what career they choose. “All of your achievements, whether you are an entrepreneur, a headmistress, working in the administrative department, or an insurance agent; your achievement is also our achievement,” she said. With MPI celebrating its 35th anniversary next year, she hoped that these former students would come back for the Alumni Gathering and 35th Anniversary Dinner next year. MPI Marketing Manager Bobo Wong then introduced the courses available at MPI. Head of Department for Early Childhood Education Wee Jia Ing introduced the upcoming new programme, Methodist Child Care Early Childhood Intervention Programme (ECI). Head of Department for Accounting Adam Tiong also introduced the new ACCA Intensive Revision Programme which will start in 2026. It was then followed by fellowship and the presentation of souvenirs. The next launching will be on Dec 14 in Bintulu followed by Kuching on Dec 27. |
