Entrepreneur’s Sharing on Going Global

[Sat 04 Oct 2014, 04:06 PM]

4 October: MPI Business talk on “How to Build a Business from Zero to Millions” has been well attended by the lecturers and students of MPI, the business talk is an effort of MPI to broaden the students’ horizon to outside classroom learning experience, thus enrich their learning at MPI. The distinguished speaker, Mr. Liow Ren Jan, who is also the founder and CEO of AYS Sdn Bhd, has passionately shared his success formula for business.

According to Mr. Liow, it is the combination of preparation, seizure of opportunities and action that creates what we call “Luck”. “Passion alone is not sufficient, what is required to build the fundamentals of a successful business are aspiring vision, dynamic leadership and a winning team at its initial stage. With the right fundamentals as its firm foothold, the business should further grow into a more sophisticated organization that focuses on 5 critical success factors: intellectual properties, marketing mix, operating systems, communication and cash flow.”

“All businesses meet with ups and downs over time, statistics have shown that 50% of new start-ups collapse in 3 years, 90% in 5 years”, Mr. Liow stressed that the challenge for a business at this stage is to manage downsides by reducing cost of goods and overheads, and developing better sourcing strategies and low cost business model for longer term sustainability, it is therefore very important for the business to pay heed to the profit and loss statement, reports on sales, gross margin by products and their analysis.

“Once the fundamentals are laid, the critical success factors are established, a business is ready to go global! The international market which is more complex and incredibly diverse, however, offers untapped potential and profitable opportunities.” Mr. Liow, who is also the recipient of ‘Best Halal Product Award 2009’, has specifically pointed up the huge potential and big opportunity of halal market, which is amounting to more than US$2.1 trillion or approximately 10% of global trade per year, awaiting the young entrepreneurs in Malaysia.
